This military face mask is one of the most exceptional finds at the Kalkriese battle grounds. As 'The Kalkriese Type' it stands as the prime example for masks with a small face, the eyes are not particularly even, but give good sight. It is made of iron with silver overlay. The silver have been stripped off. At the chin you can find a fixing for the helmet, which probably possessed cheekprotectors. The 'Kalkriese Type' and the 'Noviomagus Kopsplateau Type' are the oldest facial helmets knows in the Roman army. First part, 1st century AD.
