Mogontiacum - Mainz - Magonza

Moguntiacum aut Mogontiacum (Germanice: Mainz , Hispanice: Maguncia , Italiane: Magonza , Francogallice: Mayence), oppidi nomen a nomine Celtico Mogon nomine oriri putatur.

Nero Claudius Drusus Germanicus (January 14, 38 BC – summer of 9 BC), born Decimus Claudius Drusus, also called Drusus Claudius Nero.

Druso è morto nel 9 avanti Cristo. Il castrum di Mogontiacum è quindi anteriore al 9 BC.

Two Roman Towns in Germany Having a Solstitial Orientation of Their Urban Planning. Amelia Carolina Sparavigna,  Polito - Politecnico di Torino [Torino]
Abstract : Here we discuss the orientation of the urban planning of two Roman towns in Germany, Kastell Kesselstadt and Mogontiacum, the Roman Mainz. As all the Roman military camps and coloniae, these towns were planned according to an ideal pattern, based on a grid of parallel and perpendicular streets. Using a software giving the sunrise azimuths on satellite maps, we show that Kastell Kesselstadt and Mogontiacum have the main axis of the grid oriented along the direction of the sunrise on the summer solstice, that is, that the towns have a solstitial orientation.

In my opinion, the solsticial alignment is in honor of MOGON. "The Romans adapted the old name of the site: "the land of Mogon". In an inscription from Saalburg, a god with this name is identified with Apollo Grannus, a god of health. " That is APOLLO, the SUN.
